Section members play a vital role assisting in educational programming, policy statement development, practice intervention development, and many other projects, including representing the AAP to other organizations. Section leadership has implemented a strategic plan with measurable outcomes based on member feedback, including AAP National Conference programming, educational opportunities, presentation slides, newsletters, and handouts.

As a member of SONTPT you will receive:

  • The Section newsletter, published electronically two times a year, containing information on current tobacco prevention and treatment initiatives
  • A subscription to the Section's discussion list to talk about current issues around tobacco control and facilitate communication and networking among section members
  • Opportunities to:
    • Plan and provide educational sessions at the AAP National Conference and other meetings
    • Get involved with Section projects and activities based on your area(s) of expertise and interest
    • Run for positions on the SONTPT Executive Committee (for AAP members only)
    • Participate in Section member surveys to guide educational opportunities
    • Vote for proposed changes to help guide the future direction of the Section (for AAP members only)
    • Influence AAP by providing input to policy statements and practice guidelines

  • Encourage friends and colleagues to join the Section
  • Spread the word about Section to other sections, committees, councils, Chapters, and AAP members
  • Actively participate in discussions with your peers

  • Suggest topics for the newsletter or Section activities
